Yes You Are!

Cristiano Ronaldo has captured the most prestigious individual prize for a football player - FIFA's world player of the year.
There's no doubt in my mind that Cristiano Ronaldo deserved this accolade more than anyone else for what he did in 2008. A staggering stat sheet, along with being the focal player for last year's Manchester United conquests, made Cristiano Ronaldo a no brainer(no pun intended) for the award.
As a Portuguese immigrant I am very proud of what Ronaldo has accomplished, and i know that it's very easy to hate Ronaldo, I am not one of those haters. I might not ever forget his gesture to Benfica fans, but that alone does not make me hate him. I do think that he has certain traits and attitudes that i despise, but to each is own.

The truth is that the kid is talented, and according to reports, a very hard worker. That alone should earn him the credit he deserves. Never mind the wild parties with hookers, and the several girls he sees, anyone in his position would do the same.
The inevitable comparisons to Eusebio and even projections of him surpassing Eusebio are premature at this time. The truth is that Cristiano Ronaldo will never be better than Eusebio if he never carries the national team to a major competition. In my opinion the only thing that was missing from 08.
