Fumas,
I see your blog is just as strong as ever. Cheers to you for all of your hard work.
It was reported that Freddy Adu returned to Benfica following the Honduras match in the Gold Cup, has there been any news of him in training or how he's performed?
B-Rob,
Freddy has not trained with Benfica at all this pre-season. There were a few reports that he would be in Lisbon this week to take care of his future but there is no official word from either side. He did tweet that he was working things out at the moment with Benfica but his future continues to be a mystery. One thing is for sure he will not be at Benfica this year, as Benfica just picked up another forward on loan from Barcelona. I think his future may very well go through MLS I would not be surprised if that happens. In a season that preceeds next summers wc, every player is trying to put themselves in a club where they will have a chance to play and show themselves to their ntl team coaches.
As it stands right now if the wc was tomm I would highly doubt Adu would be part of the squad. From what I was able to gather he asked to be released from the ntl team to take care of his future with Benfica. He then went on vacation and never set foot in Lisbon. I'm sure there's not many people in the natl team happy with him at the moment. Hopefully there will be some developments on Adu this week.
Thanks for checking out the blog
Cheers
Fumas,
You appear to be correct to an extent. The link below has updated information on his status. I am a bit sad to hear of these developments because I felt that Freddy played his best while he was with Benfica, but such is the world of soccer. I hope he ends up finding a team which allows him to see the field.
All in all, while he was there I enjoyed watching Benfica play to the point where I continued to follow them after he was loaned to Monaco. I will continue to support them in the future (so long as they are not matched up with Manchester City :) ).
