Reports in today's media, report that Quique and his technical staff met with Rui Costa after the team's last game. During that meeting, where Quique and his technical staff discussed the year's successes and failures and according to published reports, during that meeting, Rui Costa informed Quique and his staff that Benfica does not have intentions to see his contract through.
The decision was logically met with a claim to the salaries that were guaranteed in the contract's two year agreement, that amount is somewhere around the 3.5 million euros mark.
The situation is now in what looks like a negotiation period, in which Benfica and Quique will need to find a comprimise that will please everyone, one thing is for sure, the Spaniard will remain firm in his demands, and while Benfica will most likely have to put out that money(or close to it), that money would be much more useful towards buying a forward the team is missing.
Meawhile, on their way to their home countries, both Luisao and Maxi expressed their wishes that Quique stays for at least another year.
Cardozo also manifested that the formula for success is in stability, but did not mention Quique in a recent interview.
More news should come out in the next couple of days, but as I have written here before, sacking Quique is a big mistake, but with the reports coming out today, a reversal of everything that's been reported in the past two weeks will only expose what is already suspected from this team's directive - they have a very big part in the teams failures.
