Benfica's own TV channel will get underway on the 2nd day of this October with an experimental session.
Benfica, who is the first Portuguese club to have its own channel, will be broadcasting the second leg of their UEFA Cup match against Napoli.
This will be Benfica TV's first ever broadcast, and will be available in Portugal through cable provider MEO. The broadcast is being labeled as experimental, although both the club and MEO have already reached an agreement.
Regular broadcasts should follow soon thereafter, but details are still unclear on what games will be broadcast by BENFICA TV.
As of right now, and due to the current contract with Olivedesportos, Benfica's matches for all Portuguese domestic competitions will continue to be aired by SPORTTV and RTP, who buy the season rights from Olivedesportos.
Benfica owns the rights to all of their European games, and these will be the only games being shown live, once the channel gets underway officially.
Benfica's current Olivedesportos contract is up in 2013, only then will Benfica fully own the rights to all of their domestic competition matches.
For the time being, and once the channel gets underway, Benfica TV will be airing interviews and shows about the club, that will include team reports from the practice field, as well as game reports and anything surrounding the team.
Live game broadcasts will be limited to youth games and the aforementioned European competition games.
There's also a strong posibility that the channel will be airing Benfica's domestic games on a tape delay.
There's no word on the availability of the channel outside of Portugal, certainly it'll be a lot easier to expand to the rest of Europe at first, but where does it leave the rest of the Benfiquista's around the world?
At the time BENFICA TV was officially introduced, Luis Felipe Vieira praised the project, claiming that it had been one of his goals that will increase interest in Benfica not only on a national level but also on a global level. Let's hope they don't forget all of the Benfiquista's outside of Portugal.
