Did You Know?

Did you know that if you live in the North American continent, your only way to watch Benfica - porto live is to either go to your local Portuguese bar/restaurant(that usually shows the games), or through your computer(P2P providers)?

That's right, for those of you who live in the US or Canada and currently have SPTTV providing you the Liga Sagres games, don't count on watching any of the "derbys"(SLB-fcp, fcp-SLB, fcp-SCP, SCP-fcp, SLB-SCP,SCP-SLB) live in the comfort of your own home.
SPTTV announced earlier this summer that all of the derbys will be on a tape delay to all of their residential subscribers.
If you're like me who pays 24.99 for Dish Network's Portuguese package, you have to be outraged. The only reason I have signed up for this package is because of the Liga Sagres games, as the rest of their programming, with the exception of the news, is total garbage. Granted that over the years the ability to watch Portuguese futebol on your home tube has come a long way, but to have restrictions put on what you can watch live, when you pay a premium specifically for that reason, truly sucks.
It's clear that these restrictions are being put out by Newark based SPTTV, as they are opening up the live signal to business subscribers.
So Saturday, if you prefer not to watch the game on a little square on your comp, and are fortunate enough to live close to a bar that will be showing the game, you will most likely be sitting at a bar, where watching a game can be an experience of its own.

That's fucking bullshit dude. Will it show on PPV or something? RTPi?

I'm afraid not, you'll have to make the trek over to a local Portuguese bar that usually shows the games, or catch it on the web through P2P streaming sites, it's free but the quality is not the best, but watchable. SPTTV will show the game immediately after it's finished i believe, so you might have to hide out for about an hour and then pretend you are watching it live..

RTPi's deal is that they get second dibs on 1 live game/week, SPORTTV has first dibs on what game they want to make their weekend showcase.

That sucks man. I mean there's a few local Portuguese pubs around here that show it, but I'd imagine a lot of benfiquistas are going to be left out in the cold on this one. Not every city has a Portuguese bar.

I don't understand why SPT would throw out the games with the most revenue potential when they have dibs on what to show...

Basically it comes down to the fact that alot of bars were signing up for residential accts, and getting away with it, so i think they have devised a system that only commercial accts can have the game live, while blocking the game for residential accounts, i don't know if through a special receiver or through a different scrambled channel.

Fumas, I'd love your take on my post today! Don't know if you've looked at the Portuguese schedule, but all the derbies are done by the 5th week.
