A Just Winner

Football isn't always a logical sport, and the winner isn't always the best team, but yesterday the good guys got one.
Spain defeated Germany in the Euro 08 final, and finished off the tournament without losing a single match, something that has only been done once before.
Unlike the Italians of WC06 and the Greeks of Euro08, the Spanish dominated throughout the tournament, and exhibited the best football, and they are just winners for that dominance and quality practiced. Their final opponents played their best game of the tournament against Portugal, and were often inconsistent throughout the tournament, but their experience and history seemed to have carried them.

I can't help to think that this tournament, and the luck of the draw, really favored Portugal, and Portugal could have very well been playing in the final. With a much weaker side of the bracket, Portugal could have cruised to the final game, but instead, in good Portuguese fashion, wasted a golden opportunity.

In two years, South Africa will host the next World Cup, Qualifying starts in September, still no sign of a coach or an annoucement by the FPF. Time will tell how the national team will move on from the Scolari era.
