I have very little desire to write about the National team, much because of the ridiculous figure the FPF has portrayed themselves in the past two weeks, and then today, in an attempt to find a scapegoat for Portugal's possible failure, FPF's Vice Prez, claims that Benfica is trying to destabilize the national team.
Perhaps the announcement of Scolari going to Chelsea, complemented with the fact that the FPF could not match Chelsea's offer, and the unusual allowed trip to Barcelona by Deco in the middle of a major competition, in a time the team needs to be concentrated. Or maybe the constant presence of "super" agent Jorge Mendes in the Portuguese camp, are not enough destabilizing factors for the national team.
Benfica is now being accused of trying to destabilize, while all Benfica did was question the competence of entity the FPF is. Benfica has not done anything that could have affected the players and the technical staff.
To point fingers at Benfica, when what is going on behind the scenes in Switzerland is way more serious, is an act of cowardice.
I will be there tomorrow, in front of a TV, rooting as i always do, with my national team jersey on, and hope that Portugal triumphs. But if they perform poorly and lose - for me, there's a logical explanation for it, and I will not be devastated, heartbroken perhaps, but not surprised, not surprised at all.
Same starting 11, let's hope we can give continuation to what we did in the game against the Czech Republic.
