Auf Wiedersehen Butt

Benfica and Hans-Jorg Butt have reached an agreement for the German to leave the club.
Arriving in the beginning of the season, Butt was never able to challenge Quim for the number 1 spot, and in the times he was given opportunities he showed to be an average goalkeeper. He leaves Benfica with no financial penalties for either party. With the biggest winner being Benfica, as they cleared up a chunk in wages, as Butt was rumored to be earning quite a a chunk of change.
Butt has been rumored to be on is way to Bayern, and will now have a much easier time dealing with any team.

With Butt's exit, Benfica will now have, in my opinion, the perfect scenario in the the goalie department with Quim, Moreira and Bruno Costa.
Quim is the rightful owner of the Benfica goal, especially after the season he had. Quim was contested by the Benfica faithful when he first came to Benfica, and many were against Quim over Moreira, who was labeled as Benfica's goalie of the future. That's all in the past, and forgotten by many, but at 32, Quim does not have many more years in front of him, at least not at the level where he is at. Moreira is 26 and continues to be the future of the Benfica goal, and he has enough talent to currently challenge Quim for a starting spot, something Butt never had.
Bruno Costa who was part of the pre-season roster, but went on loan to Romania's CS Otopeni, will most likely be the third keeper, as the third keeper is always a youngster an apprentice if you will.
I don't believe Moretto will return to Benfica, even though he belongs to Benfica. The Brazilian has expressed the desire to remain in Greece or go go elsewhere.
The latest reports which claim Benfica is interested in Sao Paulo's Diego Cavalieri, holds no substance, even though Sao Paulo's Sporting Director confirmed Benfica's inquiry. I think it would be a grave mistake for Benfica to acquire another goalie. I didn't agree with the signing of Butt at the time, but with Benfica's goalie problems in the year prior, and Moreira hurt it made sense.

In conclusion, Rui Costa continues to be on target with his decisions.
Oh, and there is also talks that Benfica and Rodriguez are close to reaching an agreement, which would keep the Uruguayan at Estadio da Luz until 2013.
