Benfica's exclusive option to buy Christian Rodriguez expires today. After today, any club can come in, and lure the Uruguayan international with an attractive offer for next season.
Rodriguez has been an important part of this season's team, and in my opinion, top 2 of the many acquisitions Benfica made this year.
Rodriguez's pass is currently owned by a group of investors and is valued at 8mm euros. Benfica has tried to lower the value of Rodriguez's pass along with the wages desired, which are reported to be somewhere around the 1.5mm euros/season.
Rui Costa has expressed the desire to keep both Leo and Rodriguez for next year since they are important first team players.
Certainly a player to keep, a player that is part of the core of good players Benfica currently has. It would be a great mistake not to make every effort to keep Rodriguez, a player who has demonstrated that he can be a great asset to the team, and that embodies the type of spirit that characterize a Benfica player.
