Trimming the Squad

With the January window fast approaching, Benfica will be trimming their squad from 30 players to just around 22. Here are some of the players that will be on their way out on loan and their destinations:

Fabio Coentrao - Nacional da Madeira (Bwin)
Miguel VĂtor, Romeu Ribeiro and Yu Dabao - Desportivo das Aves (Vitalis League)
Andres Diaz - Estrela da Amadora (Bwin)
Zoro - ?

For the young players, it'll be a welcome challenge as they will most likely see more playing time and will be picking up valuable experience in the process. As for Zoro, he seems to be the odd man out. He has failed to make an impression on Camacho, and currently the central defender position is very deep. Zoro's agent is currently trying to place the Ivory Coast international in a team, hoping that he can still impress his national team coach to be called to the African Nation's Cup, to be held early next year.
These are 6 players that will definetely be going off in hopes they can impress Camacho for next season. Camacho is looking to pick up a minimum of 2 players when the transfer window opens up, his priorities are an attacking midfielder that plays on the right as well as a forward. So with these 6 players gone we would see the squad back to 24 players which is a closer number to what Camacho wants the squad at, with the possible acquisition of 2 more players, Camacho will see himself cutting a minimum of 2 more players. More news will come out of the Benfica camp in the next 2 to 3 weeks.

I wouldn't be surprised if Bergessio and Miguelito were the other 2 players moved. They have not seen much playing time, and in Bergessio's case, he has not impressed at all.

Tough to say about Miguelito, if Benfica picks up another left back, which they have been linked to (2 brasilians Nery and Gilberto). I wouldn't surprise me to see Miguelito go but only if Benfica picks up a left back, If there's a position that's always in demand in the bwin is LB. Despite of what Camacho has said he needed, if there's rumours surfacing on 2 different left backs being connected to Benfica, It's because Benfica is definetely sounding the market for a left back. Personally i'd like to see Benfica add depth to the position as miguelito is not a suitable back up. I'd very much like to see them sign Leo, but he is asking for 3 years and 150mil which would make him "jump" over Luisao as far as wages. 150mil is a lot of money. His agent is back in Portugal to try to negotiate with Benfica this week, On the other hand, when a player of his age asks for that type of money and lenght, sounds like he has other places he can go to. Bergessio's situation is somewhat delicate. One can justify his poor performances as part if his settling into another country and style of soccer. Romagnoli had the same problem when he came to scp. I think he would have a lot to gain by going on loan to a mid table Bwin team, it would make his transition easier, imo. There's no doubt the Squad will be significantly reduced, with Benfica picking up a forward, which seems to be the priority, he is definetely the odd man out, although him and mantorras are neck to neck.

Note that a GK will go out in January - Bruno Costa or Moreira (to play) or Butt (unhappy).

Yes you are correct, Bruno is 21, no longer a Junior, and since he served as the 3rd gk while Moreira was out, he might be on the way out in a form of a loan.. then again, I think that if Moreira starts tomorrow, it's a clear sign that Butt might be on his way out.
Looking at the squad from serbenfiquista.com -
http://www.serbenfiquista.com/modalidades/_jogadores.php_tipo_futebol_

there's 29 players listed and he is not listed so that would make 30total.
I don't think Moreira will go out on loan, Moreira is the club's darling, there's a better chance that Butt might go, it's a complicated situation. Butt came to Benfica thinking he was going to be #1, but that hasn't been the case, and at this point he must be considering his options, Moreira will stick with the team, he feels he is in debt to the club, after all he has been getting paid while he was hurt, not his fault off course. But morally he has to feel he owes the club big time. It'll be interesting to see how that develops.
